What to expect at your Family Photoshoot
First things first—don’t panic. A family photoshoot doesn’t require perfect hair, model children, or everyone pretending to be the Mandelas. Real life is messy, loud, hilarious… and that’s exactly what we’re here to capture.
Here’s what to expect, so you can relax, laugh and maybe even enjoy yourself. (Wild, I know.)
Family photoshoot shot outdoors
The photographer will be your hype person
Think of your photographer (me) as a mix between a zen master, a toddler whisperer, and a part-time stand-up comedian. I will guide, pose, prompt, and catch the magic in between.
It won’t be 100% posed
Sure, we’ll get the classic “everyone look at the camera and smile” shot for mom’s fridge. But most of the magic happens between the poses—tickle fights, snuggles, inside jokes, etc.
Expect real laughter, real movement and maybe even a little dirt on your pants. (Worth it.)
The kids might be wild… that’s totally normal
That’s normal. Don’t stress.
Meltdowns, snack breaks, bribes—I’ve seen it all. I come prepared. If you can embrace the chaos, the photos will reflect your family’s real personality (which is 100x better than fake smiles anyway).
I might say things like ...
“Pretend you just saw a dancing chicken behind me.”
“Everyone look at Dad like he just farted in an elevator.”
Yes, these are actual things I may say just to get genuine reactions. Just roll with it. It works!
You don’t have to know how to pose
The photographer’s job is to give you direction on what to do and how to pose. Just relax and follow my lead. If I say “just be natural,” I actually mean, “stand like you would if you weren’t overthinking this.”
Trust me—it’s going to look great.
Final Thoughts
The more you lean in and forget about “looking perfect,” the more magic we can make. We want photos that remind you of how this stage of life feels—not just how it looked.
Your job: Show up, love on your people, and try not to threaten anyone with “no ice cream later.”
My job: Capture all of it—the love, the laughter, the wild bits, the quiet ones and everything in between.
I hope this helps. Bless.
