Having a photographer come to your home
Your home is your castle. Your solace. Your private space. Not only is it where you find comfort and security, but there’s a big chance that this is also where you have nestled your greatest treasure...your family. So needless to say, you’re NOT going to let just anyone get access to this safe space.
Ofcourse there’s a handful of people on this earth who generally couldn’t care less. The “never-mind” squad. To them their home is just a house where they reside. No big deal. If you fall in this category, good for you.
But having a photographer come to your home is not as scary as it may sound. Just make sure that you’ve hired a reputable and trustworthy professional who respects his craft and his clients. No fly-by night, creepy individual.
With that out of the way, let’s dive into the shooting space.
A Family portrait captured at home
Shooting space/area
At some point when making the booking, you should present possible shooting areas to your photographer so that they can advise which area they think would work best. Only consider areas that you’re comfortable with.
A “pinterest-worthy” home
Your home does not need to look like the cover of a magazine. You live there, we get it. Also, we’re not there to judge you. We just want to help get the photography job done in the comfort of your home. The scene must look natural. Just ensure that the area is clean, neat and tidy (no legos lying around everywhere).
Lighting
Natural light makes everything look subtle but timeless. So we’ll gravitate to areas that are close to large windows or glass doors. If there isn’t sufficient natural light to work with, we’ll whip out artificial light. However, this is very much dependent on the space available for mounting diffusers and such.
Dresscode
Don’t try too hard. You have to feel and look comfortable. Consider a cozy but well-coordinated look. If you want to go bare foot, make sure your toes are clean and the nails are tidy. If you’re gonna go with just socks on (with clothes on too ofcourse), make sure they don’t have holes and such.
Props that we could use
Fresh flowers, your favorite mug, a cozy throw blanket, cushions, toys, pets or snacks. Yes, snacks.
In conclusion
Just let your hair down and relax. Remember, you’re not hosting. You’re being photographed in a space where your life happens every day. It’s meaningful. It’s authentic. It’s beautiful.
I hope this helps. Bless.
