Things to consider when planning your wedding

Here are some of the things worth considering when planning your wedding:

Plan ahead

This may seem obvious to some, but I’ve seen it not to be obvious for all. First of all, a wedding is an event. Successful events require planning ahead. Plan for your wedding atleast 1-2 years ahead.

Budget

This is the most important point because your big day is not going to come cheap, especially if quality service is important to you.

Sit down with your partner and determine how much money you’re prepared to spend for your day. Give yourself some flexibility by having a budget range with the minimum spend (i.e. best case scenario) at the low end & the maximum amount (worst case scenario) at the top end.

Lastly, determine how long it will take you to save up in order to have the worst case scenario amount at hand. This will give you a good indication for when you could possibly have your wedding.

Remember, a wedding is only expensive if it exceeds your budget. So allowing yourself sufficient time to build up a healthy budget will reward you with the flexibility to choose the service providers that you actually want….& not just based on what you can afford.

Plan in detail

This an event that usually comes once in a lifetime. So you want to make sure that you plan in detail & you consider all scenarios……even the worst-case scenario. It involves lots of moving pieces that you as the bride/groom will not be able to oversee on the day. So identify 1 or 2 trustworthy people that are very close to you & delegate some tasks or responsibility to them.

Venue, décor, accommodation, catering, outfits, rings, rehearsal(s), dress fitting(s), sound hire, start time, end time, photography &/or videography…..are just a few of the points to consider.

Determine the requirements, deliverables, terms & conditions, and the overall cost from each service provider well in advance. Ask many questions. Consolidate to get the grand total & cross check this against your total budget.

Photography &/or videography

You’ll eat the cake, enjoy the food & drinks, have laughs with family & friends. All these will come & go. However, photographs of the day will provide you the ability to relive those special moments even many, many, many years after your wedding. Memories to treasure for life.

As such, take the process of selecting your photographer very seriously.

When considering your potential photographer, take note of their style, experience, personality, reliability, previous work, reviews, deliverables & ultimately price. Most of this info can be found on their website by the way.

Once you’ve identified someone that best ticks your boxes, it’s important to communicate what you need (pre-wedding shoot, wedding duration, photobook, wall art, special requirements, etc.) from the start to ensure alignment before making the booking.

I hope this helps.
